El Dorado Lake is unique in Kansas in that it has the only water storage space in a large Corps of Engineer's reservoir that is owned by a City. This is important, because in a time when water, especially exceptional quality water, is becoming more and more scarce, El Dorado owns an asset that will be vital for the future prosperity of El Dorado.
If you look at the history of El Dorado, it was built upon oil and cattle as a resource that helped strengthen the entire regional economy. Water is a renewable resource that El Dorado has in a semi-arid region. It is needed to help our region grow and prosper. So folks in this area are, once again, looking to El Dorado to take the lead, secure and plan for the future of this region, this time, using a renewable resource - water.
