Shoreline work is set to begin soon in the Riverview Park area. While this is being completed, patrons will still be able to access the playground equipment and fishing bridge, although portions of the bike path will be closed at various times during the work. The project is expected to take several weeks to complete.
The improvements include the replacement of the riprap below the low-water dam, as well as where the Walnut River meets the West Branch of the Walnut under the US 54 bridge. These areas were washed out during flooding a couple of years ago. The city is working with the Department of Agriculture and the Corps of Engineers to place the riprap and clean up the area.
This is being done prior to the installation of a new play structure for the park, which citizens voted on last year. Residents can expect to see work on the new playground this fall, when the current equipment is removed and the new structure is installed.
