All public water supply systems are required to add chlorine to water to maintain water quality and keep the water safe to drink. Periodically, usually every other year, we switch from mono-chloramines (a milder disinfectant) to free chlorine (a stronger disinfectant) to clean our water distribution system. This is a normal annual or biennial activity recommended by the Kansas Dept. of Health & Environment in order to maintain the highest water quality to our customers. We will begin this practice on September 10th and continue for about 3-4 weeks. The water will continue to be safe to drink, but you may notice a slight chlorine odor.
