[ARCHIVED] El Dorado Police Department receives AAA Kansas Traffic Safety Award

AAA Kansas Presentation

The El Dorado Police Department received the AAA Kansas Platinum 2020 Community Traffic Safety Award.

This is the 12th year AAA Kansas has offered this honor; this year presenting awards to 32 police departments and 11 sheriff’s offices.

Through community outreach and education efforts, collaboration with engineering and roads departments, as well as enforcement in the areas of seatbelt usage, speed control, distracted driving and impaired driving, law enforcement agencies play a crucial role in keeping drivers, pedestrians and other users of our Kansas streets and highways safer.

“AAA Kansas offers its sincere appreciation to you and everyone on your staff for making traffic safety a priority in your community,” said Shawn Steward, AAA Kansas Public and Government Affairs Manager, in a letter to the department. “It is our honor to present you and congratulate you on this well-deserved award!”

This year, to promote public health safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, the award was presented to Police Chief Curt Zieman and Sergeant John Thompson by Troy Wells, Kansas Department of Transportation Law Enforcement Liaison, rather than being presented during a City Commission meeting.
