[ARCHIVED] Annual Statewide Conference

On Saturday October 11th, municipal staff and elected officials from around the state met in Wichita for the three day League of Kansas Municipalities (LKM) Annual Conference. El Dorado had a large contingent of City staff at the event. Staff members were joined by Commissioner Locke and Mayor Fagg. The LKM Conference is a great opportunity to network with other cities while attending workshops and sessions on the issues impacting local governments across the state. Attendees heard from a variety of guest speakers including Ed McMahon of the Urban Land Institute, Congressman Mike Pompeo, and Susan Metzger of the Kansas Water Office.

A few quotable moments:
"The key infrastructure for the future is education."
"Tourists won't go to a city that has lost its soul. Historic buildings and landmarks are our physical connection to the past and need to be preserved." Key Note Speaker Ed McMahon
"Trails are transportation not just recreation" Mark Fenton (MarkFenton.com)
